Be Social

1. Hold a conversation:

            * Practice conversation starters. Make a list of 10 great questions to start conversations. Role play.

            * Invite an expert like a psychologist, motivational speaker, life coach, or other knowledgeable person to             show you how to introduce yourself.

            * Make a poster with 10 conversational tips.

2. Use table manners:

            * Brainstorm five things not to do at the table, and then find a good substitution. Pick three good             manners and practice them for the next two weeks.

            * Set the table - learn the proper places for silverware, glasses, napkins, and plates. Now, set the table for             a week.

            * Study table manners from other countries. Learn table manners from another country and try them out.

3. Be prepared for special occasions. Choose an occasion and answer these questions - why is the ceremony held? What important rituals are in the ceremony? How should you dress? What's one helpful skill you should know before attending? When is the occasion usually held? Is there something especially nice to say (or wish to) the host or guest(s) of honor?:

            * Wedding

            * Funeral or wake

            * Coming of age ceremony

4. Say Thank You:

            * Thank the host - role play how to thank the host after a dinner or party.

            * Hand-write a thank you note - write three thank you notes in the next month

            * Make a thank you gift - the next time you feel really thankful to someone, give a thank you gift.

5. Practice being at ease. Hold a party to practice what you've learned:

            * Invite other Girl Scouts

            * Invite your friends and their parents

            * Invite your class
