Tiger Cubs.....They're Ggggrrrreeeeaaaattttt!!!!!

Welcome to the Tiger Cub Page!

Welcome to Pack 126, 2014-2015 scouting year. I am excited to announce that I will be your scouts Den Leader this year. Den meetings will generally be held at McKinley School, every other Thursday from 6-7:30pm in the cafeteria.
This scouting year your scout will be embarking on a scouting journey, as he will learn what it means to be a scout and gain an understanding of the BSA’s 12 core values. This year the pack will focus on science, your scout will work on various science projects revolving around the four elements; air, water, earth, and fire.
All projects are safe and will be monitored by me. Please note, your scout will not handle fire, although we do have one project where matches are involved, but will ONLY be used by me. If needed, there will be safety gear supplied. In addition, any project where adult assistance is needed, I will stress to your scout to NEVER try the experiment without the help of a parent or adult.
For you convenience, I've attached a copy of our pack calendar. Also attached is a copy of the Bobcat Requirements, please review this information with your scout, as he will need to know this in order to receive the Bobcat badge. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
Shawnta’
Pack Committee Chair / Interim Tiger Den Leader

What is a Tiger Cub?

Tiger Cubs is an exciting introduction to the scouting program (created in 2001) for first grade boys (or 7 years old) excited to get going! Tiger Cubs do stuff - lots of stuff - with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as tigers.

The Tiger Cub program runs on two levels. The scout and his adult partner meet weekly to do activities centered around the family. Then, the scout and adult partner meet with the rest of the tiger den to fulfill Den Activity and Go See It requirements.

A little Tiger Trivia:

  • Tigers had a totem that was hung from the belt until 2006. It was replaced by a totem that hangs from the right pocket, similarly to the Wolf and Bear progress beads.
  • Tiger Cubs did not earn the Bobcat rank. In 2006, the Bobcat rank became the first rank earned by all Cub Scouts, including Tigers. The Tigers had their own motto, but now they just use the Cub Scout motto.

How to Earn the Tiger Cub Rank Badge

In order for a Tiger Scout (1st grade), to earn the Tiger Cub rank badge, he must first complete the Bobcat requirements and earn that badge first.

Bobcat

No matter what age or grade a boy joins Cub Scouting, he must earn his Bobcat badge before he can advance to the rank of Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos. A boy must complete the Bobcat requirements, which include:

  • Learn and say the Cub Scout motto, the Cub Scout Promise, and the Law of the Pack and tell what they mean;
  • Show the Cub Scout sign, salute, and handshake and tell what they mean; and
  • Show that you understand and believe that it is important to be honest and trustworthy.

Once the Bobcat requirements have been completed, the scout will then be eligible to earn the Tiger Cub rank badge. This is done by completing the necessary requirements from the Tiger Cub handbook, and the rank badge will be presented at the end of year awards ceremony.

**Attached is a copy of the Bobcat requirements that I will go over during den meetings. In between meetings please go over this with your scout to ensure memorization. He will be asked to recite part or ALL in order to earn the Bobcat badge.
