So What is Cub Scouting All About?

What is Cub Scouting?

Cub scouting provides an alternative afterschool activity for your son. Cub Scouts follow Den Leaders who arrange meetings to teach your child skills which he would not get in ordinary activities. Your son will have fun, seek adventure and become a better person through character building. The Scout Leader and parents work with your son at weekly Den Meetings which the parents and leader schedule.

The Ten Purposes of Cub Scouts

  • Positively influence character development
  • Encourage spiritual growth
  • Help boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body
  • Improve understanding within the family
  • Strengthen boys' ability to get along with other boys and respect other people
  • Foster a sense of personal achievement by helping boys develop new interests and skills
  • Show how to be helpful and do one's best
  • Provide fun and exciting new things to do
  • Prepare boys to become Boy Scouts
The Twelve Points of Character Connection
  • Citizenship:                Contributing service to local, state, and national communities.
  • Compassion:             Being kind and considerate, and showing concern for others.
  • Cooperation:             Being helpful and working well together.
  • Courage:                    Being brave and doing what is right regardless of our fears.
  • Faith:                          Having inner strength and confidence based on our trust in God.
  • Health and Fitness:  Being committed to keeping our minds and bodies clean and fit.
  • Honesty:                     Telling the truth and being worthy of trust.
  • Perseverance:           Sticking with something and not giving up, even if it is difficult.
  • Positive Attitude:       Being cheerful and setting our minds to find the best in all situations.
  • Resourcefulness:      Using human and other resources to their fullest.
  • Respect:                    Showing regard for the worth of something or someone.
  • Responsibility:           Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.

Lets not forget about the fun things we do from hiking, camping and visiting local attractions. Cub Scouts participate in annual Pinewood Derbies where they build and race their own car.  From Archery to Showman there are many activities to keep you and your child entertained.
Pack 570 serves West Springfield and surrounding areas. Along with our weekly den meetings, all the dens of the pack meet once a month. This includes the scouts, you the parents, den leaders, and our chartered organization. Our pack meetings are also geared for fun, but it is a chance to hand out awards, activity badges, and plan the direction of the Pack. The Chartered Organization handles the business side of pack 570 and keeps the dens updated on National Scouting issues.
