About Sartell Pack 211

Who are we?:   We are part of the Boy Scouts of America, specifically for Cub Scouts in northern Sartell, MN.    We have over 80 boys in the 1st through 5th grade that are active members of our group, most of whom attend Oak Ridge Elementary School or Sartell Middle School or who live within the district area for these schools.

What do we do?:

Pack Meetings:   On a monthly basis, we all gather together for a meeting to celebrate accomplishments, play games, have a snack, and enjoy other activities together.

Den Meetings:  Each boy is assigned to a smaller den (4-14 boys per den) based on their grade level.  The dens meet one to two times per month in order to help each other complete activities to earn badges and other awards or to simply have fun as a group.  The locations of these meetings will vary depending upon the activities selected.

Camps:  There are both day camps and overnight camps available to the boys throughout the year.   These camps are loaded with many fun opportunities for camping and other outdoor activities.   They are also the only place where scouts can earn badges for archery and BB gun under the watchful care of an expert.

What does it cost?

To join:    The cost is only $36 for a calendar year, which includes the fee for the national organization as well as the dues for the local organization.     To join in September, 2015, the total fees are $50.00, which will cover the remainder of 2015 and all of 2016!   You will also need to purchase a scout uniform, but these generally can last through most, if not all, of the years you are in Cub Scouts.

Boys’ Life Magazine:  Many boys enjoy receiving their own Boys’ Life Magazine on a monthly basis.   This includes great articles about scouting adventures, articles demonstrating some of the core values of scouting, and some fun stories and jokes.

Camp costs:  There are some costs for attending the various day and overnight camps which we attempt to defray as much as possible through our annual fundraiser of popcorn sales.   In most years, we have been able to cover the costs of all returning scouts wishing to attend a summer camp.

Other costs:   Some dens will decide as a group to participate in other optional activities which may have  a small cost.   The den will work together to determine the extra activities, if any, for their group.

What parent involvement is required?

A key aspect of the Cub Scout program is being a family centered activity.   A parent partner for the scout is key to their enjoyment and success throughout the program.   For scouts in the 1st grade (Tiger level), it is required to have an adult partner with each scout at each event.   Although it is not required after the 1st grade year, we find that most partners choose to stay involved in all the events and experience the fun alongside the scout.    The relationships between the parents grow at the same time that the scout friendships grow.

There are also many opportunities to volunteer with the scouting program either on a one-time basis or in an ongoing role.   Contact any of the leaders to find out more about opportunities currently available.
