Overview

Pack Leadership

Any Cub Scout Pack is run by the Cubmaster, the Den Leaders, and the Pack Committee. The Pack Committee is made up of a group of parents who manage the Pack’s business aspects and who also work to ensure that the scouts have a fun and rewarding experience in scouting. Participating in the committee or attending committee meetings is optional, but it’s a great way to see how things work, learn what’s coming up, and add your own great ideas to the list!

Pack Organization

Scouting is comprised of dens which are made up of boys of the same age.

  • Tiger Cubs are 1st graders and all have an adult partner who attends all events with them.
  • Wolf Cubs are 2nd graders.
  • Bear Cubs are 3rd graders.
  • Webelos I is comprised of boys in 4th grade.
  • Webelos II is comprised of boys in 5th grade.

Each scouting level has a handbook that explains the activities the boys must complete to advance to the next level of scouting. These activities combine some tasks performed with the scout’s den and other tasks performed with the scout’s family or adult partner.  We ask an adult to sign the book to confirm when activities are completed.

Achievements and Accomplishments

Depending on the child’s age, beads or pins are earned as the scout progresses through their activities. When all activities are completed, the scout earns the badge with their Den symbol (i.e., Tigers, Wolves, etc.). All scouts are required to earn the Bobcat badge when they join scouting. Requirements for the Bobcat badge are shown in the front of the handbook.

There are also optional activities, (electives) that boys can do to earn awards.  Electives are outlined in each handbook and vary by the scout’s age.  Boys can also work towards Academic and Sports pins and belt loops which are common across all levels of Cub Scouts. The requirements for the belt loops and pins are not outlined in the handbook but can be found on the web.  Your child’s Den Leader or Cub Master can also provide you additional information.

Meeting Schedule and Location

Pack 127 meets at the North Ontario United Methodist Church, 7200 Ontario Center Road, Ontario, NY. We meet in the Community Room at the back of the church.

The typical schedule is as follows:

  • Den Meetings:  1st and 2nd Monday meetings of every month. These dates and locations MAY vary based on the needs of the participants in the specific den.
  • Committee Meetings:  1st Wednesday, combined with the council meeting, of every month.
  • Pack Meetings:  3rd or 4th Monday of every other month. The whole Cub Scout group gets together to have some fun, discuss upcoming events, enjoy guest presentations, and distribute awards for boy's accomplishments.

Keeping the Outing in Scouting!

In addition to our standard meetings, we plan several extra activities each year. Over the years we have had picnics, bike rodeos, camp fires, pool parties, hikes, camping, Polar Panic - a Cub Scout winter fun day, an overnight at the airport, the Pinewood Derby, geocaching, Amerks games, a gymnastics event, and Camporees. The sky is the limit. Bring even more great ideas to the mix when your child joins!

Web Access

These introductory pages of our site are available to everyone. Once you join our pack, you will receive an e-mail providing information on how to access the pack's private site which contains even more information about our upcoming activities, committee information, and photos of past events, and lots more!

Costs and Uniforms

Pack dues for 2011-2012 are $40 per scout for the scouting year and there is also a small registration fee due when the scout submits his scout application. In addition, the child will need a uniform and a handbook. We recommend that you buy a shirt (and belt, if desired) a few sizes larger than what the child needs so that it will last for the entire Cub Scout experience. All scouting supplies can be purchased at either the Scout Store in Geneva, NY, or at the Council Store on East Avenue in Rochester.  The people at the store are also a great help in telling you exactly what you should get for your child’s pack and den level.
