Rockclimbing/Repelling

In December the Crew will be Rockclimbing and/or Repelling at Earth Trek in Columbia.  There may be a followup with outdoor climbing.

Kayaking

The Crew's first paddling activity for the year is kayaking in July.  The location was Antietum Creek into the Potomac River.   It was a long paddle with some Class I whitewater.   Next time we would do the shorter more exciting lower  part from Burnside Bridge to the Potomac.

Centennial Camporee

The Crew's Superactivity for 2010 is the National Capital Area Council's Centennial Camporee over Memorial Day weekend.  The event will be held at the Goshen Scout Reservation, near Stanton, VA.  Each Crew member has selected their individual events for the weekend such as: Archery/Trap/Rifle Shooting Rotation, Canoeing and Kayaking, Sailing, Mountain Biking and Introduction to Wilderness First Aid, Climbing and Outdoor Living History, Lumberjack and Wilderness Survival, High Powered Rifle and Black Power Rifle, Backpack Cooking and Blacksmithing, Pistol "First Steps" Training, Eco Challenge, and COPE.

Backpacking Old Rag

In early April the Crew plans to go backpacking on Old Rag.  Old Rag is one of the highest peaks in the Md, Va, W Va areas.   Again backpacking is another first for some in the Crew.  Fortunately, others in the Crew are old hands at it, with experience at Lenhok'Sin and Philmont.

Klondike Derby

In January 2010 was the the first winter camping experience for some of the Crew members.  The event was held at Cedarville State Park in Brandywine, MD.  The Boy Scouts in the unit had the first timers busy preparing the to dress, eat, & sleep in the winter and stay warm. The weather provided a true winter wonderland for the event.

Camp Kester

For the past several summers, the Crew has spent the weekend at the Advisor's summer cabin at Lake of the Woods.  Because of the range of activities, the Crew has named it Camp Kester.  For now, the Crew sleeps in the loft of the Cabin (a real log cabin), cooks in the kitchen, and has full plumbing/electric service.  Some camping!

The Crew enjoys swimming, snorkeling, tubing behind the motor boat, kayaking, canoeing and just chillin'.

Canoeing/Kayaking on Rocky George

Rocky George reservoir is in the Crew's backyard.  Naturally, the Crew has taken several opportunities to paddle up and down stream.

Snow Sports Weekend

For the past several years, the Crew has spent a weekend at the Raynor's family cabin near Blue Knob, Ski Resort in Pennsylvania.  Several of the Crew are accomplished skiers or boarders, but all enjoy snow tubing.

Joint Religious Retreat at Mattaponi

The Crew has participated in the Joint (Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Catholic, Protestant) religious retreat for the past several years.  The Crew typically runs a station (rather than touring the various stations) and has a great time.

At the Joint Retreat, the Crew sleeps in tents and prepares food on a camp stove.  One of the highlights of the event is the evening camp fire.  With the Crew's excellent fire builders and the enthusiam of all the campers from scout units from all over the D.C. metro area, it's always fun.

Pistol Shooting @ 24th Precinct Bow & Gun Club

The Crew trained in Pistol Shooting Basics and shot 22 pistols at the 24th Precinct Bow & Gun Club, Bowie, MD.  Some Crew members qualified for the Shooting Sports award.
