CREW'S BYLAWS Preamble – Scout Oath and Law  

On my honor, I will do my best 

To do my duty to God and my country andto obey the Scout Law; 

To help other people at all times; 

To keep myself physically strong,mentally awake and morally straight.

A Scout is:

As an American, I will do my best to -

Membership

Membershipshall be open to all young adults who live in the surrounding areawho are 14 - 21 or have completed the eighth grade and are at least 13years of age.  No prospective member shall be disqualifiedbecause of race, color, creed, or sex.  All members must beregistered adventurers and agree to the crew code and bylaws.

 

Officers

1.  The elected officers shall be president, vicepresident of administration, vice president of program, secretary, treasurer,historian, quartermaster, and guide.  The president, with the approval ofthe Advisor, shall appoint activity chairs and make other assignments asneeded.  The duties of the officers shall be as prescribed in the VenturingLeader Manual.  

2.  To be eligible to run for an officer position,the candidate must be an active member in the Crew for the preceding 6 months.

3.  The normal term of office for all electedofficers shall be for one year starting in August.  In addition, electedofficers will be expected to serve as past-president, past-VP, past secretary,past-treasurer, past-historian, past-quartermaster, and past-guide to assist inthe training of our new slate of officers for ½ of the new term.  Thesepositions can be held concurrent with other officer positions.

4.  On the night of the election, nomination may bepresented from the floor by any member.  If the nomination is seconded andthe candidate agrees to serve, he or she must be included on the ballot.

5.  All contested ballots shall be secret.

6.  If, by unanimous vote of the remaining officers,any Crew Officer is deemed unfit to continue holding his/her office, they maybe replaced by special election.

Crew Business

Crewbusiness will be conducted under the principles outlined in Robert’sRules of Order.  Voting onall issues will be by simple majority, with theexception of changes oramendments to the bylaws, which will require two-thirds vote of the totalmembership.  A quorum shall consist of one or more of themajority of members for votes on routine business.

 

GeneralMeetings 

Generalmeetings will be held every Thursday, excepting announcedschool holidays.

 

Officer’sMeetings

Officer’smeetings will be held at least twice a year at a time and placedifferent from the regular crew meetings.  These meetings willbe held atany given time between March and August and at any given timebetween September and February. 

 

Newsletter

Thecrew will publish a newsletter monthly, which shall includeall meeting dates and other information of interest to the membership.Thenewsletter will serve as the historical record of the crew.  Thenewsletter will be written by a delegated person for a term of one year.

 

Dues

Annualdues will be the cost of registration/recharter with BSA plus costfor a crew shirt, if needed.

 

Money-earningprojects

Allmoney-earning projects must be approved by a majority vote ofcrew members.  Members who do not participate in a projectare not entitled to any benefits of the funds earned.  Allmoney-earning projects must be approved by the Advisor and meet BoyScouts of America requirements.

 

Behaviors

We havea strict zero tolerance policy on drugs, alcohol, andsexual behavior.  Anyone found in violation on an outingwill immediately be sent home by the nearest available mode of safetransportation at their expense.

 

Attendance

A Venture that doesn't attenda meeting for three consecutive months without being excused ahead oftime by the crew president, shall be considered“inactive”.A Venture must be “active” to participate in trips.
