Scouting is a unique and rewarding activity for scouts and their families as parents regular involvement is vital to the success of the program and the enjoyment of the boys involved. Parents don't just 'drop off' scouts at our meetings, they are involved not only in the weekly activities but aid in the leadership, planning, and execution of large and small events throughout the year.

If you would like to join our pack- we encourage you to come out to one of our meetings at Lancashire, in Wilmington, on a Tuesday night at 6:30pm (we meet most Tuesdays during the school year, but check out our calendar just to be sure). One of our leaders will be happy to talk to you and your son about what goes on in our regular meetings. If you'd like more information, you can always email us. We ask the scout families to get involved as well- it takes a lot of behind the scenes work to provide a quality program for our Cub Scouts. From organizing events to assisting our other leaders, it really takes everyone to keep things running smoothly!

What Scouting Is All About...
For new scout families, there are always a lot of questions about how this "scouting thing" works. Most people think of scouts and they think of hiking and camping, but that's just a small part of what scouting is all about. The cub scout promise "Do Your Best" most accurately summarizes the essence of what we do- work with the boys so that they put forth their very best no matter what they are doing.

Some of the activities the scouts are involved in, from first grade ("Tiger" Den) to fifth grade ("Webelos"):

  • Recycling/Conservation
  • Good eating and hygiene habits
  • Exercise and physical fitness
  • Responsibilities to family and community
  • Service, doing 'good deeds'
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HOW OLD DOES MY SON HAVE TO BE TO JOIN SCOUTING?
A: Our youngest scouts are in First grade (Tiger Den).

Q: WHEN CAN WE JOIN SCOUTING?
A: You can join scouting anytime (although during the summer we don't meet regularly). We recommend that you stop by at one of our meetings and talk to our leader who can answer questions and give you an applicaiton while your son watches to see what goes on in our normal meetings.

Q: HOW OFTEN DO CUB SCOUTS GO CAMPING?
A: Camping is only a small part of what we do every year! From games to learning things they'd never learn in a classroom or at home, scouting includes many events both at the school and away that makes the program incredibly rewarding. We typically camp out 1-2 times per year. Older scouts will camp out a few times extra during the year.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?
A: Scouting is a 12 month program: we meet regularly from September until May, and then we have some special events (usually once a month) during the summer. Dues include a charge of $30 in the fall and then another $30 in the spring, unless the scout sells over $300 in popcorn during our fall popcorn sales campaign.  Dues cover expenses within the pack, registration of your scout with Boy Scouts of America (which includes insurance for your son at Pack and Den events),"Boy's Life Magazine," and additional supplies used for den activities.
