In case you have not heard Gerber Scout Reservation was selected by the Michigan Crossroads Council to continue to operate as a Boy Scout Camp and Cub Scout Camp in the 2013 season. That means even more mountain boarding!

More detailed information on this is available at the Michigan Crossroads Council Camping Page.

If your unit has already put in a reservation at any of the camps running this year they will be honored at one of the camps that are being operated in the 2013 camping season.

Sessions for Boy Scout Camps will be:

  • Week One – June 16-22
  • Week Two – June 23-29
  • Week Three – June 30 – July 6
  • Week Four – July 7-13
  • Week Five – July 14-20
  • Week Six – July 21-27
  • Week Seven – July 28 – August 3

If you signed up for a week outside of these new parameters or signed up for a camp that is not operating Boy Scout Camp in the 2013 season you will be contacted before September 30th to have this resolved.

The person taking new reservations is Nick Killian and can be reached at 231.649.0033 and nick.killian@scouting.org

Thank you all for your continued support and patience as Gerber Scout Camp becomes part of the Michigan Crossroads Council.

Gerber Scout Camp

Gerber Scout Reservation

The camp first opened in 1951 and is currently owned by the Gerald R. Ford Council. The approximately 800-acre  (3.2 km2) property containing Big Britton Lake, Little Britton Lake, and Mayo Lake was donated in part by the Gerber Products Company in 1951. The Gerber Scout Reservation is divided into three camps, one for Boy Scouts, one for Cub Scouts, and a new camp for Venturing crews.

In recent years, Gerber Scout Reservation attendance has swelled from 900 in 1997 to over 2,300 in 2012. Much of this increase can be attributed to the 1998 initiation of the Cub Scout and Webelos Adventureland, a section of the camp dedicated to Cub Scouts. Gerber currently has the capacity to accommodate 425 Boy Scouts, 200 Cub Scouts  each week or session.

Activities offered at the camp include the Waterfront, Honor Ground, Climbing Tower/COPE, Scoutcraft, Handicraft, Environmental Resource Center, Archery, and Shooting Sports. In 2008, a Technology Center was added to the camp, offering a new-age spin on the traditional summer camp experience. The new dining hall, named the Centennial Dining Lodge, was completed in time for the 2010 summer camp season. Centennial Dining Lodge boasts state of the art facilities, a capacity of over 700, and a safe place to take shelter.
