Scouting Programs
Purpose
The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America--incorporated on February 8,
1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916--is to provide an educational
program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the
responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal
fitness.
Join Scouting
Scouting provides youth with an opportunity to try new things,
provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical
standards. These opportunities not only help them when they are young,
but carry forward into their adult lives. The skills they learn in
Scouting help them overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and
character throughout their lives.
Boy Scouting
In the Boy Scout program, boys learn through the experiences of
camping, hiking, building projects, and community service. Scouting
fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of
accountability, and teamwork.

- Team
The program builds boys mentally, physically, socially, and
spiritually. The skills they learn in Scouting help them overcome
obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their
lives.
Give your son a valuable gift by encouraging him to join Boy Scouting
today. The time you invest in him today will make a difference in the
person he becomes tomorrow.
Scouting is provided locally in neighborhoods across the country
through churches, community organizations, or other groups of interested
citizens.
I'm Ready To Join
To join Scouting, contact your local unit or contact the Council Service Center to find out how to contact a Scout unit in your area. There are also Unit pages available in a list from each of our Council's district pages.
Attend a Recruitment Event
Recruitment events are a great way for you to meet the leaders of Cub
Scout Packs and Boy Scouts Troops serving your area and to learn about
what Scouting can offer. Scout units typically host recruitment events
at your local school, church, or civic center in the fall and in the
spring.
Come join the fun and see what it is all about!
