Lion Den

Welcome to the Lion Den!

Lions is an exciting introduction to the scouting program for Kindergarten boys excited to get going! Lions do stuff - lots of stuff - with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and
every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as Lions.

This first year in Scouting requires that an adult partner participate with Lions in all den meetings and activities.

LION SCOUT PILOT INFORMATION

LION SCOUTS

Lions is a pilot program of the Boy Scouts of America for Kindergarten-age boys. Cub Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America, whose mission is to help young people build character, learn citizenship, and develop personal fitness, become effective leaders and have fun in the outdoors. Cub Scouting focuses on boys in the first through fifth grades (or from ages 7 through 10). The Lion Pilot Project is exploring the value of a Kindergarten-age program.

OVERVIEW
Lions is a family program. A youth and his parent or caring adult partner join Scouting together. A group of six to eight boys and their adult partner meet together in a group called a Den. Dens will meet once per month. They have fun participating in Den meetings and outings while making memories together.

PROGRAM
The Lion Pilot program encourages boys to learn and explore through hands on, high energy activities. Each adult partner takes a turn at leading a den meeting or outing during the year. Most meetings and outings are approximately 45 minutes in length.

RECOGNITION
Boys are recognized for their accomplishments as they work toward the Lion badge. The Lion badge is earned by completing five adventures. Adventures are completed during the den meetings and outings.

ADVENTURES

LEADERSHIP

Den meetings and outings are facilitated by a Lion Guide and participating parents. The Lion Guide is an experienced Cub Scout Leader. He or she will lead the first den meeting of the year. The Lion Guide will help each adult partner lead one of the following meetings. The den meeting plans are provided in the Lion Parent and Leader Guidebook.

ADULT PARTNER
The adult partner participates with the Lion Scout in fun meetings and outings and takes turns with other adult partners to lead a Den meeting or outing.

LION GUIDE
A Lion Guide is a volunteer leader who provides direct support to your Lion Den.

CUBMASTER
The Cubmaster serves as the “ringmaster” for the monthly pack meeting. The pack meeting is an event where all of the dens in a Cub Scout pack come together for fun
activities and awards. Lion dens are more independent and attend only two or three special pack meetings as Lions.

UNIFORM
The uniform for Lions is the blue Cub Scout Class A uniform & a neckerchief (a triangular piece of fabric worn around the neck) is the standard uniform. Some units may opt to use a Lion T-shirt for 2016-2017. Adults may wear the above uniform or follow the pack’s uniform custom.
