One of the unique things about Troop 300 is that we often "rough it" more than many troops. Scouts are encouraged to be resourceful (our unofficial thirteenth point of the scout law) and find ways of "making do" with common items instead of relying on commercial gear. When camping many of our meals are cooked on an open fire instead of a stove. Scouts also have the option of sleeping in cardboard boxes (a/k/a "official BSA solar powered sleeping tubes") instead of tents. And, we do things like make hammocks out of duct tape. For example on a recent campout scouts learned how to make "breakfast in a bag". In a survival situation (like a zombie apocalypse) we're the guys you want to have around.
