The founder of the Boy Scouts, Lord Baden Powell, was never seen without his trusty hiking staff. Today the walking stick is still a friend on the trail, always there to lend support, leverage or an advance "feel" of terrain ahead.
Monthly, an Outing in Scouting will be planned for the Scouts. The length of that month's walk depends on the location itself. These locations around the Heath/Newark area and we are always looking for new ones, so let Mr. Bill know if you have an idea for one.
When coming to an Outing in Scouting, always DRESS FOR THE WEATHER! Outings will be held, RAIN, SNOW OR SHINE! (Obviously if the weather is severe, the walk will be canceled with as much notice as possible.) Also be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Flip flops and sandals may not always be appropriate for the terrain. Also be sure to bring a water bottle for hydration!
As with all Scout activities, we have a reward for participation. The rewards are based upon the amount of miles that you walk.
1 mile = Walking Patch
10 miles = Water Bottles
20 miles = Compass
30 miles = Walking Stick
+10 miles = Plaques for your stick
