Leader Training Basics

Required Minimum Training:

The BSA requires that ALL registered Cub Scout Leaders (Cubmasters, Den Leaders, Assistants, and Unit leaders in direct contact with youth) be trained as described below (minimum is Youth Protection Training). Please read the Attached letter from the BSA.

Leaders will not be allowed to Re-charter in their current position without this training.

To be fully trained and earn the Trained Leader emblem, a new leader must complete basic training in the following order:

Youth Protection Training: New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. Youth Protection Training must be completed every two years to remain current.

Fast Start Training for their volunteer position

Leader Position-Specific Training: Fully trained leaders changing leadership roles should take the Leader Position-Specific Training for their new position.

Orientation Training: This is Scouting

How to go about Getting Trained:

1. Go to www.myscouting.org

2. Create a "myscouting" account (if you don't already have one)

3. Click on the "E-Learning" under "Training" - you will see 4 tabs:
Cub Scout
Boy scout
Venturing
General

4. Under "General" you can take "Youth Protection Training" (required to be a registered leader in Scouting) and "This is Scouting" training.

5. Print the Certificate at the end of the Training and give a copy to your Unit Leader.

6. Under "Cub Scout" tab, you can take "Fast Start Training".

Thats it - Each Training session takes about 30 minutes.  Do it today, do it for the boys!
