1. Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these rules. Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it. If the car loses a wheel, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to make repairs
2. You must go by our scale
3. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches. The car must have
1 ¾” clearance between the wheels. The car must have 3/8” clearance
underneath the body so it does not rub on the track.
4. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches
5. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces
6. All participants must use the pinewood derby kit supplied by the pack, which they purchase from the council.
No replacing parts in the kit with others
7. Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited
8. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs
9. Details may be added to the car as long as they do not exceed the
maximum length and width specifications
10. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices
11. No loose materials of any kind (such as lead shot) are allowed on the
cars
12. The wheels may be sanded to remove surface imperfections, but the
tread must be left flat
13. The wheels axles must be put in the grooves in the block of wood in
the kit
14. All judge’s decisions concerning the race are final
15. Cars must be newly make. Cars made and raced in previous years may not be used.
