To Join the Pack
The first step is to fill out an application.  You can reach out to Pack 140 directly by clicking the link at the top of the website "Contact Our Pack", or fill out the application attached to this webpage.  For more information on joining or to sign up online, please go to Be A Scout website to gain more information on Scouting in general or see if there is a Pack in a different location that may work better for you.  We ask that you read the information below to learn more about Pack 140.

The Organization

Cub Scouts are for boys in grades 1 - 5 or ages 7 – 10.  They are divided into groups of the same grade/age.  These groups are called Dens.  The First Grade groups are called Tiger Dens.  The Second Grade groups are called Wolf Dens.  The Third Grade groups are called Bear Dens.  The Fourth & Fifth Grade groups are called a Webelos Dens.  Collectively, these Dens comprise what is called the Pack.

In the scouting organization, packs are members of individual Districts, which are in-turn part of Councils.  Cub Scout Pack 140 is part of the Potawatomi Trails District, which is part of the Three Fires Council, headquartered in St. Charles, IL.  Packs are chartered by organizations which can be business, religious, or philanthropic in nature.  Pack 140 is chartered by the St Pius X Parish.

The overall Pack program is carried out by the Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster(s).  Each individual den has a Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader.  They work with a group of volunteer parents/guardians called the Pack Committee.  The Committee usually meets once a month throughout the year to manage Pack administration, policy and oversight.  The committee also interacts with the Chartered Organization Representative who is responsible for the communications between the Chartering Organization (St. Pius X), Council and the Pack.

Pack 140 has no paid positions.  Everyone is a volunteer.  Parents/guardians are asked to take an active role in Pack activities and events.  Parents/guardians are needed to step forward and help in various capacities, from official leadership roles to “volunteer” roles which help with events like the Blue & Gold Banquet, Pinewood Derby and various fundraisers.  The more a parent/guardian puts into the Pack, the better the program is for all the boys.  The Pack requires that an adult from each Pack family volunteer in some capacity through each Scouting year.  See the Cubmasters or any Committee member for additional information.

Annual Fee & Fundraising
The average cost to the Pack for the entire program year ranges over $175 per year, PER SCOUT.  The Pack charges each Scout a $60 annual registration fee.  This fee, along with required fundraising, subsidizes the costs incurred by the Pack.

Fundraising is expected and required.  A fundamental principle of the Boy Scouts of America is learning to earn your way.  Boys are taught early on that “A Scout is Thrifty.”  A Scout works to pay his own way and to help others at the beginning of the year.  The biggest fundraiser event is our Popcorn Sales which begins in September.  Currently, other fundraisers include holiday wreaths and pancake breakfast ticket sales.  Other events may be scheduled by the Pack Committee based on Pack needs.

Families must participate in fundraisers throughout the year to help fund Pack 140 activities and events.  A minimum of $100 in total fall fundraising (popcorn and/or wreaths) sales in addition to the sale of five Pancake Breakfast tickets is expected from all families. Failure to meet minimum expectations will result in the parent/guardian being responsible for costs incurred by the Pack for their scout(s).

Fundraising Incentives are offered from the Pack in the form of scout credit of 10% of individual popcorn and wreaths sales applied to the boys account.  To qualify, scouts must sell the $100 minimum required in fall fundraising.  Scout account credits can be used toward any cost for your scout billed through the Pack (e.g. outings, annual fees, events, etc.).  Also for each wreath sold a $1 gold-tone dollar coin is awarded.

Cost should not be a reason to for your son to miss out on the Cub Scouting experience.  If there are financial concerns, please contact the Pack’s Committee Chairman, Dominick Romano at (630) 432-3282 to discuss options.
