Pack 309 participates in two council sponsored fundraiser campaigns each year.
The first is our fall Popcorn sales fundraiser. It is a major fundraiser and helps defray the costs of operating the pack. Doing well in this fundraiser event keeps our pack dues low.
We have historically been successful, earning about 80% of our operating budget from popcorn sales. The 2014-2015 pack goal is to reach $250 of popcorn fundraising per cub.
Participation is strongly encouraged, as everyone's sales help everyone else in the pack.
Boys are encouraged to work at our “Show-and-Sells” and sell popcorn to friends and family.
Cub can also earn prizes for selling and helping support the pack. Prizes include those from Trails End (the popcorn fundraising company)and council prizes. Prize information will be online soon!
If a cub sells more than the $250 between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015, he will earn 10% everything over the $250 ina 'personal scout account' usable to pay for pack camping trips, day camp, pack shirts, camping items, uniforms, etc, from the scout shop.
Also, if a cub sells $2,500 or more in that time period, he will earn 6% from his sale which will go into a council created personal into a college fund - AND - and every year after reaching that goal he will add 6% of his sales to that college fund as long as he remains in scouting (cub scouts and boy scouts.) Sell now, earn money for college every year from now on!
If your scout sells more than the $250 in a one year period (from June 1- May 31) your scout will earn 10% of the following amount in a scout account that you can use to pay for pack camping trips, even day camp, pack shirts, camping items, even uniform from the scout shop!
On top of that there are prizes from trails end, and council prizes, if that not enough if you sell 2,500 in one year you earn 6% from all your sales that goes into a collage fund and every year after all your sales earn 6% no matter how much or little you sell for their whole scouting life.
Show-and-Sells are opportunities for scouts to sell popcorn without having to go door-to-door. The event chairs has made arrangements (in advance of the fundraising season) with local businesses for our cubs to sell items at the entrance of the business. Cubs can sign up for the available time slots by calling popcorn chair and requesting one of the time slots first request first only 6 scouts allowed per hr, show up, sell popcorn, and earn funds for the pack while using those sales to help advance towards their sales and prize goals.
All scouts participating in a Show-and-Sell must be wearing full Class 'A' uniform. i.e.,class-'a' shirt (with all proper patches), neckerchief and slide, scout belt, scout hat (if desired), and either navy blue shorts (can be bought at wal-mart, etc.) or blue jeans(no sport shorts allowed.)
At Popcorn Blitzes, families are given popcorn to sell door-to-door as a pack. Each family will sign out the product, with the responsibility of turning in the sales money or unsold product by the stated deadline.
