What is Boy Scout Troop 61?

Troop 61 operates out of East Brunswick, New Jersey. It is a part of the Mattameechen District of the Central NJ Council of the Boy Scouts of America. [It was the SEMEOS District until 2010.] It is chartered by the East Brunswick Exempt Firemen's Association.

Our Troop has regular weekly meetings on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 during the school year. We currently meet at the Lawrence Brook School on Sullivan Road. [It was the Irwin School on Race Track Road in 2007.] We go on at least one campout per month. There are no meetings on days when school is closed.

What are the Boy Scouts?

The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916. Its purpose is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Over the past 90 years a lot has happened to Scouting both in the States and across the globe.

Central New Jersey Council stretches across New Jersey, from the Delaware River to the Atlantic Ocean. Scouts can experience farms and open spaces of Warren and Hunterdon counties, the suburbs of Mercer County, and the busy activity of the capital city of Trenton, the urban areas and the Atlantic Shore in Middlesex County.

About Boy Scout Troop 61

Troop 61 was formed in the year of 1960, in East Brunswick, New Jersey. It teaches valuable skills and citizenship to the boys in the Troop, who are 11-18 years of age. Boys contribute their time and energy to improve themselves and our community under the leadership of trained volunteer adults and family members. For the rest of their lives, the boys will use the values and skills they have learned for the benefit of society. Many boys have reached the highest rank - Eagle Scout - through Troop 61.

We have at least one outing each month, usually a camping trip. Sometimes it is a Community Cleanup, helping to keep East Brunswick clean. In July we have a one-week summer camp, often in the mountains of Northwest New Jersey.

To learn more about our program, or about Scouting in general, please feel free to stop by any Monday night. You may also call the Scoutmaster, Hugh Galbraith at 732-613-0894.
