WHEN AND WHERE DOES TROOP 1936 MEET?

The troop meets on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the large event room of the First English Lutheran Church located at 3001 Whitis Ave in Austin TX. If you park in the parking lot in back of the church (across from the Fire Station) you will see the doors to the meeting location next to the playground.

WHAT SHOULD A SCOUT WEAR TO THE MEETING?

Boys are expected to be in class A uniform for official troop events and activities, which include troop meetings. The troop has determined that the official class A uniform for our troop to be the official Boy Scout Shirt (tan) and neckerchief/slide. While official Boy Scout pants are not required, youth and adult members are encouraged to wear them. However, members should wear their uniform shirts with appropriate pants and shoes for the event or activity. A class B uniform (official scout t-shirt or troop t-shirt) may be acceptable during some troop events.

HOW OFTEN DOES THE TROOP MEET?

The troop meets weekly. However, meetings may be modified based on troop activity (i.e. a campout weekend) or holiday (i.e. Easter Sunday). All meetings and activities are posted on the troop calendar of this website (in private section).  The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) will meet on the 1st Sunday of the month immediately following the regularly scheduled troop meeting. The Troop Leaders Council  (TLC) meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO THE SCOUTS DO AT TROOP MEETINGS

Troop 1936 is a boy lead troop. As such, activities are determined by the scouts themselves with assistance of the adult leadership. Often, meetings focus on advancement activities or engaging in some skill activity or service.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE TROOP GO CAMPING?

The troop plans campouts once a month on the 2nd weekend of the month. Campouts are planned by the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) and then adult leadership assists in the logistics of the camping events. The troop utilizes a variety of camping  facilities in the Central Texas area in choosing a camping location. Previous sites have included Canyon of the Eagles, Lost Pines Scout Reservation, Texas State University Camp, Wolf Mountain, and Lake Belton.  The troop also holds overnight sleeping events before major activities (i.e. Scout Parade).

The troop participates in a weeklong camping experience each summer at an official BSA Council property. Scouts work on merit badges and camping skills as part of their experience.

WHAT SHOULD A SCOUT WEAR ON A CAMPOUT?

All adult leaders and scouts must wear the official Class A Uniform when traveling to and from camping events. During the campouts, youth and adult are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing according to the weather and activities planned.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO BE A BOY SCOUT IN TROOP 1936?

Dues are set by the Troop Leadership Committee (TLC) annually based on the activities planned by the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC). For 2013, the dues are $75 for youth and $25 for adults. These fees include the registration fees required by the National and Council level of scouting. These do not include grub fees for campouts or special event fees. Fees may change annually based on youth planning of activities or modifications to the national registration fee. The troop believes scouting should be available to all interested youth and will do whatever they can to assist scouts and families to participate within the financial limits of the troop budget.
