What We've Been Up To

We have been a very busy Troop!  Here is a list of the activities our Troop has participated in.  We hope to continue offering our girls the opportunities to learn, help, and enjoy the world!
World Thinking Day  World Thinking Day was sponsored by all of the local troops in the area.  It was held at Eagles Landing Middle School on a Saturday. Each troop represented a different country and was placed in a different room throughout the school. Each troop was to offer a traditional food and swap from their country. Our Troop sponsored the country of Mexico and served beefy cheese nachos with punch.  We gave each visiting troop a traditional Mexican flower swap.  The girls had a wonderful time visiting each country that was represented at World Thinking Day.
STEM Event      Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mechanics This event gave girls the opportunity to explore these specific areas in a hands on environment.  Our Troop:  controlled robots, constructed spin art using robotic mechanics, made goop with chemical reactions, learned how paper is recycled, saw bugs and insects that are native to rivers in Georgia, inspected fingerprints, and planted a tree.  This was a very exciting day and there were tons of exciting activities to keep our girls entertained while learning.
Noah's Ark Our troop took a field trip to Noah's Ark so that we could learn about how to take care of, feed, and keep animals healthy.  We made a troop donation to Noah's Ark as a thank you for allowing us to come and visit.  Our group had a chance to see all of the animals and even met with an employee who told us all about the bears on site.  We had a chance to play on the playground and even met up afterwards for a pizza party!
Investiture Ceremony In December, our troop celebrated all of the new scouts to the troop.  We invited parents and friends by making our own invitations.  We showed our guests the proper way to start a scout meeting, performed a skit, and received badges and awards we had earned.  We then served our guests refreshments and hugs.

Rededication & Bridging Ceremony In May, our troop participated in a Rededication ceremony for the Daisy scout members and a bridging ceremony for our Daisies who moved to the Brownie level.  We held our ceremony at Clark Park in Stockbridge, Ga.  We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and brought tons of food!  Our girls once again showed their guests that they know how to start a Scout ceremony, told the audience what they have learned in Scouts, and received badges and awards that they earned.  Our girls who moved on to the Brownie level also participated in a Bridging Ceremony in which they pledged to continue to do their best and walked over a bridge to their waiting parents to symbolize the accomplishment of moving to a new level.
Cookie Booths
Our troop believes in teaching girls the value of money and the hard work that it takes earn that money.  We participate in cookie booths to teach our girls that there are good ways to interact with people, how to present yourselves to others, and how to sell a product to earn money to do fun Scouting activities. Our troop ran two cookie booths this past season at the Peddlers Market and Five and Below.  The weather was very difficult and we had to work around very cold temperatures, but we did it!
Kidnap Breakfast At IHOP  Leaders from the troop kidnapped scouts and took them to IHOP!  The girls had a lot of fun being kidnapped and taken to their surprise breakfast.  IHOP sponsored a Girl Scout morning where the girls could indulge in breakfast in their pj's!
Nash Farm Egg Hunt     We had a blast at Nash Farm's annual Easter Egg Hunt.  We drank hot cocoa, ate funnel cakes, and spent time with the animals in the petting zoo.  We watched as the helicopter dumped even more eggs on the field for us to find.  At nightfall, we turned on our flashlights and found as many eggs as we could and every egg had a prize or treat inside!
Movie Night Our troop joined troops from our area for a movie night at Hampton Baptist Church.  We donated food items that helped support homeless shelters in the local area.  We were provided with a warm place to snuggle, an American Girl movie, and free treats and popcorn.  We stayed up really late, but it was worth it!

Braves Game
Our Troop rooted for the Braves in a game against the Padres.  We were even on the jumbo- tron!!  We ate corn dogs, funnel cakes, sodas and boogied the day away.
Southern Belle Farm Our girls had a blast at the Farm.  We watched pig races, milked a (pretend) cow, got lost in the corn maze, took a hayride, raced ducks, shot corn cannons, raced at the speedway, jumped on the bouncy pillow, and took a ride on the cow train.  We had a great time and the weather was absolutely gorgeous!

Investiture/Rededication/Bridging Ceremony Our Troop hosted other Service Unit Troops in a Investiture (New Members), Rededication (Re-Newing Members), and Bridging Ceremony.  We ushered parents, handed out programs, and invited attendees to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments.  The Girl Scouts spoke about what impact scouting has had on their life, what they learned in scouting, and why they are invested in Girl Scouting.
Juliette Gordon Low Birthday Party Our girls had a blast celebrating our Founder's Birthday.  We took advantage of the outdoors and had a pancake toss relay, balloon head relay, and hula hoop relay. We watched a presentation on our Founder so that the girls could learn more about what Juliette was like.  The video showed historical pictures of Juliette's home and the earliest Girl Scout troops.  We finished our party with a sugar feast!  Cupcakes, popcorn, fruit were just some of our yummy fare.
Bowling for a Cause  The troop met at Fun Bowl with our arms full of canned goods and coats ready for donation to a local church.  We want our girls to know the importance of community service and this is a small, but important way for the troop to give back to our community.  The girls then had a good time with parents, our troop sisters, and brothers bowling.
