Lego Derby

Lego Derby Pack Meeting

The gathering activity will be building and fine tuning the cars. You and your son are encouraged to prebuild your cars and bring them along with extra parts as we hope to have enough time to run multiple heats and the scouts will be able to modify their cars between heats. The standard size rules for Pine Wood Derby cars will still apply. We will provide two pairs of wheels that are attached to a 2x6 brick. (We will want these back.)

2.Length, Width, and Clearance:

a.Overall length of the car (including wheels) shall not exceed 7 in.

b.Width (including wheels and axles) shall not exceed 2 ¾ in.

c.Height shall not exceed 4 in. (clearance for the finish line timer)

d.Minimum width between wheels shall be 1 ¾ in. to clear the center guide strip.

e.The minimum clearance beneath the car shall be 3/8 in. to clear the center guide strip.

PWD rules provide for a max weight of 5 ozs, but we don't see that it is possible with just Legos to reach that weight. This is also not a competitive Derby so if you are enhancing weight with non Lego parts, try to find other scouts who have done likewise. Remember as always, the goal is fun.

Please bring your Lego Derby car and spare parts in a gallon Ziplock type bag with your name on it.

If you do not have Legos we will also have a fair sized collection for your son to work with and would strongly encourage you to be at the pack meeting at 5:45 so he can work on his car before the pack meeting.

Please try not to mix the Legos you bring from home with the pack's or a friend's Legos as it will be nigh impossible to sort them out afterwards.
