What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys and their parents. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.  Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.  Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the program. Through interaction between parents, leaders, and friends, boys learn citizenship, compassion, and courage. This family-and community-centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well spent.

Who can join?

Tiger Cubs (entering first grade or age 7), Cub Scouts (entering second or third grade, or age 8 or 9), Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade, or age 10).

How much does it cost?

We try our best to keep cost to the parents as low as possible and try to make it where there is no cost beyond the BSA dues.  We hold an annual popcorn fundraiser to raise money for Award, trophy's, badges & scouting events.  At the beginning of scouting, a uniform must be purchased, but this uniform can be used for several years.  Individual dens  charge den dues to help defray the cost of materials used on projects (such as building birdfeeders).  We try to keep these to a minimum.

How are parents involved?

Cub Scouting is a family program.  Parents or a responsible adult accompany their scouts to most events and use this time to create lasting memories.  Our pack has a good balance of moms, dads and siblings participating as their schedules allow.  All camping for the pack is family camping and siblings are welcome and encouraged.

Parents are encouraged to use their talents to help the pack in whatever way they are comfortable.  Parents who want to become more involved can become den leaders, assistant den leaders, committee members or volunteer to help set up or clean up events.  Parents can arrange for tours of their places of work, or help scouts learn about a hobby of theirs (such as wildlife watching).  There are lots of big and small ways to become involved.

How much time is required?

In most cases, only about 3 times per month.  A scout will have a den meeting according to the den schedule and a pack meeting the 3rd Thursday of the Month at 6:30pm.  Sometimes, there is an additional event, such as a Pinewood Derby, held during the month.
