Troop 224 Chickamauga GA

Welcome Scouts and Parents,

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath (or Promise) and the Scout Law.

We are very glad you and your son have decided to join us in the Great Scouting Adventure, where we try to follow in Lord Baden-Powell’s footsteps and make “Scouting is a Game with a Purpose”.  Troop 224 is a “Boy-Led” and “Boy-Run” Troop that utilizes the Patrol Method to empower the Scouts to realize their individual potential, while embracing the outdoors in many different activities and programs, following the guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America.

Troop 224 meets on Monday nights, from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Oak Wood Baptist Church. The complete Troop meets every Monday, except the meeting after our monthly activity, which is the Patrol Leader’s Council meeting, and attended only by members of this council.  We have a monthly camping trip and participate in other District and Council activities.  We are very proud of our leadership, but in order to provide a quality program, we need ALL parents to be active and involved- There is a Place for Everyone - either in the Scoutmaster Corp or the Troop Committee.  Active families make Successful Scouts.

Boy Scout advancement is achieved by the individual boy, and our programming efforts are aimed at providing your son opportunities to learn and succeed at his own pace and interest level.  One program that we consider very important for any Scout and that we strongly urge your son to attend is summer camp.  This offers every Scout a chance to experience new and exciting activities and explore his own personal potential. As your son joins Troop 224, there are several forms that need to be completed.  One is a BSA application to join a Troop (please be careful with the back sheet), second is a Troop 224 permission slip with medical information, a Class 1 & 2 physical, and a Contact Information form.  Also, the Troop MUST be made aware of any custody arrangements or considerations or other medical and/or legal considerations relative to the Scout.  The Troop must also receive the appropriate dues with the application, prior to joining or crossing over.  Likewise, we encourage all parents to register with the Troop and serve in our Scoutmaster Corp or on the Troop Committee.  And you are always welcome to attend our Troop meetings, Committee meetings, and activities.

Troop 224 is thoroughly committed to the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.  Our Scouting program is dedicated to passing on the values of Scouting that each of us hold so dear.  How do we do this you ask?  The answer is simple, really.  We offer the boys of our troop an exciting, challenging, and diverse program of activities in a very nurturing and supportive atmosphere.  While the boys are engaged in all aspects of Troop 224’s program, they are always made aware of the values of Scouting and how it applies to each of the situations in which they are involved in hopes that throughout their lives they will remember and apply these values.

Troop 224 cares for each individual boy.  Each of the adults are extremely dedicated to helping youth grow and develop into responsible young men who recognize their duty to God, their duty to others and their duty to themselves.

Scouts and parents, we have a place for you in Troop 224 and will do our utmost to provide you the best that Scouting has to offer.
