Activities
CubScouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Below are some of highlights of our favorite activities.
Camping
We participate in overnight family camping, day camps, and resident camps. During family camps we focus on fun. Day camps are sponsored by the District and provide a week long agenda of age-appropriate programs packed with theme-oriented action that brings Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and WEBELOS Scouts into the world of imagination. Resident camps are usually 3-5 day experiences in which the Scouts camp within a developed theme of adventure and excitement. Cub Scout pack members enjoy camping in local council camps and other council-approved campsites. Camping programs combine fun and excitement with doing one's best, getting along with others, and developing an appreciation for ecology and the world of the outdoors.
Duty to God Program
We offer a Duty to God program to provide an opportunity for the boys to earn their religious emblem they can wear throughout their scouting career.
PackEvents
Pack 20 stays very active offering a variety of events throughout the year. We have a new family orientation and ice cream social, Cub Olympics, Fishing Derby, Halloween Party, Ski Trip to Paoli Peaks, Pinewood Derby, Caving trip, RainGutter Regatta, Space Derby, geocaching, Crossover party, summer family camping, summer pool party, etc. Not all of these events may be done every year as the pack tries to change the program up a little bit every year based on feedback and what the Cub Scouts want to do.
District and Council Events
Pack 20 is very active and participates in district and council events. The pack helps to provide information on events coming up to promote and let families know what is happening. Some district events include a fishing derby, Pinewood Derby, etc. Council events include U of L basketball and football games, Louisville Bats games, etc.
Community and Service Projects
Pack 20 strongly believes in working in the community to give back and teach Cub Scouts the importance of helping others and learning leadership skills. The pack participates in the annual Scouting for Food project every November where we collect food for the church pantry. The pack has also adopted the Olde Farm, a nature preserve established in Georgetown by the Keithley family where we do service projects. The pack has also participated in caroling at local nursing homes and helps out on Veterans Day at Georgetown Elementary School. The pack puts out flags for veterans on Memorial Weekend at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown every year.
