Pack 192 in Parma Ohio

Scouting is Fun with a Purpose!, and the purpose is to raise boys of strong character who respect themselves and others.  There is no better youth leadership nor community service training than Scouting.  Cub Scout Pack 192 in Parma, OH is dedicated to a lively Cub Scout experience with activities that capture the interest of boys yet are fun for the entire family.

Who We Are

Pack 192 is open to all 1st through 5th grade boys regardless of school attended or preferred place of worship.   Our cubs are from many different schools in the Parma area..   St. Francis De Sales sponsors our pack and provides facilities for us to meet.

How We're Organized.  Our pack has about 35 boys organized by dens.  Each den usually has 6 to 8 boys of the same grade level.   Dens are a great way to make and stay in touch with friends.   Boys may join at any grade, whether or not they've been scouts before.

  • 1st graders are in Tiger dens
  • 2nd graders are in Wolf dens
  • 3rd graders are in Bear dens
  • 4th and 5th graders are in Webelos dens

Our leadership is both mothers and fathers, and even a few grandparents! Single parents are welcome.  All are volunteers.

Religious - Scouting is spiritual but does not mandate a religion.  The National Catholic Committee on Scouting provides two religious emblems programs for Cub Scouts.

What Pack 192 is Not

We are Not Exclusive - We welcome boys and families of all backgrounds.

We are Not Day Care - You should attend the meetings and events with your son.   Cub Scouting is generally not a drop-your-son-off activity.   Our activities are parent / son oriented.   Parents provide our pack and den leadership, and everyone is expected to do their part to help run pack and den activities.  Advancement requires adults assist their boys.  Parents Help the Pack Go.

Achievements and Awards

One of Scouting's biggest benefits is the structured exposure to skills and practical knowledge needed in family, career and community.

The youngest Scouts can earn recognition for achievement in Family, Den, or Go-See-It activities.   They participate in all scouting events with an Adult Partner (usually Mom or Dad).

As Scouts grow, they can learn essential skills and enjoyment of outdoor activities, community involvement, personal safety, sports, and the environment.   They earn emblems of recognition as they progress throughout the Cub Scout achievements and electives for their age group.   All Scouts can also earn recognition for 23 different sports accomplishments including virtually every ball sport plus skating, fishing and swimming.

Academic accomplishment is also very important with recognition of accomplishment in 17 areas including: Art - Astronomy - Chess - Computers - Geography - Heritage - Language and Cultures - Map and Compass - Mathematics - Music - Science - Weather - Wildlife Conservation

Webelos are the oldest Scouts and they can earn 20 pins signifying their proficiency in Physical, Mental, Community, Technology, and Outdoor activities.   The Webelos program also prepares boys to join Boy Scouts at the end of fifth grade.

Meetings

During the school year, dens meet between two and three times a month and also have several field trips per year.  Most of our dens meet Tuesday evenings a 7pm.   Parents usually take turns organizing the den meetings and field trips.   Pack meetings are one evening a month (usually the fourth Tuesday of the month from 7-8 pm in the St. Francis cafeteria) and feature award recognition and fun activities.

Camp Adventures

Pack 192 Cub Scouts have many opportunities to enjoy camping and the great outdoors.   Each summer, Day Camp provides five packed days of fun-filled games, crafts, shows, and activities.   We visit one of the Scout Camps in the area for our September campout.  This at this camp we stay in cabins. Every June we have a family campout, where we sleep in tents and have a fun time as a family.   In addition, family campouts and hikes may be planned for the entire pack or for individual dens.  Optionally, some in the Pack also attend the several weekend camp at Beaumont, go to Cleveland Cavilers games and other events.

Pack 192 Activities

Pinewood Derby - Cubs build and decorate 7" pinewood cars and race them down a 25-foot ramp, a classic event that's fun for all.  Open classes for parents & siblings too.  We hold workshops to help all build great cars.  Speed isn't everything; we've many style and performance awards.

Service Projects - Cubs collect canned goods for the St. Francis De Sales Church as part of the annual Scouting for Food Drive.  We also help the people of St. Francis De Sales Church and do a leaf raking day in the fall with Troop 192.

Blue and Gold Banquet - A feast,  skits, and fun activities blend with our annual potluck meal.  Each year a new theme challenges

Scout Sunday - A special noon Mass for all former and current Cub, Boy, and Venturer Scouts at St Francis De Sales in early February.

Youth Protection

The Boys Scouts of America,  Diocese of Cleveland, and Pack 192 strive to create a fun, safe environment.  To join Pack 192, all leaders will take both BSA's online and the Church's live classes.  Additionally, all leaders are fingerprinted and background checked, twice.  Parents complete the last leg of the tripod, talking to their sons.  Pack 192 recommends parents read BSA's Cub Scout Youth Protection website and watch the It Happened to Me video with thier son.
