Welcome to the Scoutlander site for Troop 77025. We are the town-wide Cadette Girl Scout troop for girls in 6th-8th grades in Winchester, MA. We are open to all girls who either live, attend school, or have some other affiliation to Winchester, MA including those who have never been Girl Scouts before or participated with a different troop years ago.
Meetings: we normally meet Wednesdays from 6.30-8.30 PM -- our general meeting schedule is posted on the public site
here. Girls are welcome to attend one, two, or all meetings during a month based on what interests them. Council-offered events, field trips, and money-earning activities will frequently occur outside of our regular Wednesday meeting time and are open to girls who meet the prerequesites.
Trip: early in the 2013-14 school year, interested girls will meet and choose the destination of the 2013 troop trip. To go on the trip, girls must:
- attend all the monthly trip meetings (2nd Wednesday of the month)
- sell during Girl Scout cookie sale (Dec - Mar) both in the order form and booth sale portions
- have 50% attendance at money-earning activities (or approved substitute support activities)
- fulfill the family support role by helping out with a role within the troop or by volunteering to help for specific money earning events
- submit a 100% refundable deposit to secure the girl's place on the trip ($100)
Dues: participation in any troop event requires registration as a Girl Scout ($25) and that the girl has paid dues to the troop. Dues will be collected for each meeting & event run by the troop -- girls only need to pay dues for the meetings and/or events they participate in. Dues cover food at meetings, badges earned by girls, general field trip costs, and registration for some council events (more expensive council events may require a supplement, but we will announce this ahead of time). The dues amount for 2013-14 will be $5 per meeting / event.
Voting membership: some girls will choose to only do one or two things with the troop, while others will be more active and attend at least one meeting a month. To be fair, only girls who participate at least two meetings or troop-sponsored activities a month and are current on their dues will be classified as "active members" of the troop and allowed to help determine the direction the troop is headed concerning badges chosen, types of activities offered, whether or not to waive prizes for cookie sales, changes in policy, and long-term plans. Change in status from "active" to "occasional" membership will be done at the start of each month.
Babysitting course: following our successful 2012 & 2013 babysitting course offered for girls in grades 5+, we are planning to also offer the class in 2014. Dates & registration information will be posted on this site in early 2014. After completion of the class, girls are welcome to join our contact list of trained babysitters that is available to FAN & other Girl Scout parents in Winchester.
