‘Work hard, play hard’ is the troop’s tag line and reflects how the program is designed. Troop 61 is a boy run and boy led troop. The Senior Patrol Leader works with the other youth leaders to plan the meetings and outings and run the Troop meetings. The adult leaders provide support, training, and direction as needed.
The scouts plan year-round camping opportunities in the beauty of Idaho's wilderness including weekend hikes and campouts, snow camping, summer camp, and other high adventure outings. One of our regular events is the annual Willow Creek competition, which is a competition that focuses on a variety of scouting skills including orienteering, knot tying, first aid, and fire building.
Our goal is to help young men build character and leadership skills so they grow into productive adults. Our Troop has produced many Eagle Scouts over the years, including several who have gone on to serve in the armed services.
The young men in Boy Scout Troop 61 range in age from 11-17 years of age and most live in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, or Nampa. They include public school, private school, and home school students.
Feel free to stop by one of our meetings to see how a Scout led troop is run.
