Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 178 of Brandon, MS

Cub Scout Pack 178 is sponsored by Oakdale Baptist Church in Brandon Mississippi. The Pack was founded in 2008 in the Northwest Rankin School District of Rankin County Mississippi. We reside in the Strong River District of the Andrew Jackson Council. Every year the Pack attends both the Spring and Fall camp-outs at Andrew Jackson's Boy Scout Reservation called Warren Hood. The reservation is located in Copiah county outside of Hazlehurst. While at Warren Hood the Cub Scouts can shoot BB guns and Bow & Arrow's on the BSA approved ranges.

During the summer months the Andrew Jackson Council sponsors a Cub Scout Day Camp with a different theme from year to year.

The Cub Scouts also camp at several state parks. Roosevelt State Park at Morton and Golden Memorial State Park at Walnut Grove.
They can bike, hike, fish and other Pack activities while camping in the state parks.

A
nnually the Cub Scouts enjoy building sail boats for the Rain Gutter Regatta.

They build and race Pine Wood Derby cars for the Pack and the District races.

We build and launch water rockets from 2 liter plastic bottles for fun at pack meetings.

What is Cub Scouting?

In 1930, the Boy Scouts of America created a new opportunity called Cub Scouting for boys younger than Boy Scout age. A year-round, home-centered program used by chartered organizations, Cub Scouting emphasizes involvement between boys and parents, adult leaders, and friends. In the multidimensional plan of the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouting is where it all begins. Currently, it is the largest of the organization's three membership divisions.

The Purpose of Cub Scouting:

Cub Scouting is a year-round family-oriented part of the BSA program designed for boys who are in first through fifth grades . Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:

1.   Character Development
2.   Spiritual Growth
3.   Good Citizenship
4.   Sportsmanship and Fitness
5.   Family Understanding
6.   Respectful Relationships
7.   Personal Achievement
8.   Friendly Service
9.   Fun and Adventure
10. Preparation for Boy Scouts

Our Mission:

It is the mission of Cub Scout Pack 178 to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetimes and achieve their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on those founding the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Cub Scout Promise, and the Law of the Pack.
