About the Boy Scouts of America
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped boys of cub scouts age. Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:
  1. Character Development
  2. Spiritual Growth
  3. Good Citizenship
  4. Sportsmanship & Fitness
  5. Family Understanding
  6. Respectful Relationships
  7. Personal Achievement
  8. Friendly Service
  9. Fun & Adventure
  10. Preparation for Boy Scouts
The Cub Scouts of America colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning, which will help boys see beyond the fun of Cub Scouting to its ultimate goals. The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above. The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer and happiness.

Since its origin, the Scouting program has been an educational experience concerned with values. In 1910, the first activities for Scouts were designed to build character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service. These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program and continue to be part of Cub Scouting today

Character development should extend into every aspect of a boy's life. Character development should also extend into every aspect of Cub Scouting. Cub Scout leaders should strive to use Cub Scouting's 12 core values throughout all elements of the program—service projects, ceremonies, games, skits, songs, crafts, and all the other activities enjoyed at den and pack meetings

Cub Scouting's 12 Core Values

  1. Citizenship: Contributing service and showing responsibility to local, state, and national communities.
  2. Compassion: Being kind and considerate, and showing concern for the well-being of others.
  3. Cooperation: Being helpful and working together with others toward a common goal
  4. Courage: Being brave and doing what is right regardless of our fears, the difficulties, or the consequences.
  5. Faith: Having inner strength and confidence based on our trust in God.
  6. Health and Fitness: Being personally committed to keeping our minds and bodies clean and fit.
  1. Honesty: Telling the truth and being worthy of trust.
  2. Perseverance: Sticking with something and not giving up, even if it is difficult.
  3. Positive Attitude: Being cheerful and setting our minds to look for and find the best in all situations.
  4. Resourcefulness: Using human and other resources to their fullest.
  5. Respect: Showing regard for the worth of something or someone.
  6. Responsibility: Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.
As a boy begins the Boy Scout Trail, he joins other boys his own age. He can start the scouting program from 6 (graduating Kindergarten or starting 1st grade) to 17 years old. The Cub Scout age program is for 1st graders (Kindergarteners are eligible upon graduating into the 1st grade at the end of their Kindergarten school year) through 3rd graders - Tiger cubs, Wolf scouts, and Bear scouts. After completing Bear scout requirements, scouts begin their Webelos program.

The Cub Scout program has an Organizational Structure that puts boys into groups called dens with recommended size of from 6 to 8 scouts. Dens of boys in a community form a pack which is part of a district. Districts combine to make a council - see this page for organization details.

The Bobcat rank is the first rank earned by Cub Scouts, no matter which grade they begin scouting. After earning the Bobcat rank, he then begins earning the rank of his grade.

About Pack 371

Pack 371 is a year-round, family and home centered, non-denominational Cub Scout program open to anyone of any belief (or non-belief).  Although many of our boys are from Bowie Elementary, Pack 371 is open to all boys who wish to join.  We meet at the United Presbyterian Church located at 5905 Stonewall Street, next to Bowie Elementary School, in Greenville Texas every Tuesday night. Opening ceremony is at 7:00pm and closing ceremony is at approximately 8:00pm. Pack meetings are generally held on the final Tuesday night of the month, although some holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas might require an adjustment in order to ensure that there isn't a conflict.

Cub Scouts Pack 371 seeks to encourage and nurture the ethical decision-making skills for first grade (or 7-year-old) through fifth (or 10-year-old) boys. Youth within the program participate with their adult partners to meet certain goals and complete certain tasks. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, family understanding, character development, citizenship training, personal fitness, and faith.  Pack 371 is a member of the Tonkawa District of Circle Ten Council.  We open our doors to anyone wishing to join Cub Scouts.

Feel free to stop by at a meeting or you can contact the Cubmaster.  You can join at anytime!
