Welcome to Forestport Girl Scout Troop 20002

This is the Forestport, NY, Girl Scout Troop 20002 website and we welcome you to look around.

Our troop was established in 2008 by Beth Abelbeck the troop leader and Christina Havens the assistant leader. Our troop is a multi- level troop, we have Daisy and we go all the way to Senior. We decided when we started the troop that we would let any age level join and we would all adapt to the different levels and for this troop and for us it works great. We also do things a little different than other troops by allowing the siblings of the girls to participate in any of the activities and when we do different events we also invite the entire family to participate. We believe that the most important thing for a child is to have time with their parents. We live by the motto that we are one big family and we are always there to support each other.

Our girls each year set goals and help in deciding what we will do for the year. Our parents are very active in the decision making process. We as leaders need to understand that the troop is made up everyone, meaning girls, parents and leaders and decisions should be made together. One of things we do each year and we try to do it as often as possible is we donate our time and sometimes cookies to many community events. We actively participate in the Walk for Cystic Fibrous, Special Olympics, fundraiser’s for people in need, Relay for Life, we donate time at Nursing Homes for elderly and children with disabilities. We do many parades during the year. This year we are becoming partners with a local Rotary Club so we can help our community even more.

Each year we go camping together but the entire family is invited to attend and participate in the activities. We also decide in the beginning of the year what trips we would like to do and then we decide how we will raise the money. Last year we went to Boston for 4 days and the entire families also went and we had a blast. This year our big trip to Canada and we are going to stay on Lake Erie in Canada for 4 days. For the last 3 years we have had community garage sale, meaning that a lot of the things we sell are donated by the community to us to sell. This has worked really well and we plan to do it each year.
