Welcome to the site of Des Plaines Valley Council's 2013 Jamboree Troop C131
The 2013 Jamboree is July 15 - 24th 2013 at The Summit Bechtel Family Scouting Reserve (37 degrees 53' N, 81 degrees 6 minutes W)
Every four years, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America organizes the ultimate Boy Scout experience, the National Jamboree! The National Scout Jamboree is a gathering, or Jamboree of thousands of Boy Scouts, usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Scouts from all over the nation and world have the opportunity to attend. Jamborees are considered to be one of several unique experiences that the BSA offers. The first jamboree was held in Washington DC in 1937 with attendance over 27,000. In 2010, Scouting celebrated its 100th anniversary with over 43,000 attendees.
Jamborees are rich in tradition and history. The 2013 National Jamboree promises that and more. It will make history by being the first National Jamboree at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, or The Summit (for short). And will establish new traditions, while embracing some old ones, as the permanent home for future National Jamborees. When not in use for Jamborees, The Summit will serve as the fourth operating National High Adventure Base, a national camp school and training center. The Summit will also host the 2019 World Jamboree.
The council is sending one troop consisting of 36 boys and four adult leaders, plus 12 staff volunteers.
