BOY SCOUT TROOP 96
URBANDALE, IOWA

"Leading the way......."

"Troop 96 is structured and operates under the patrol method."

Boy Scout Troop 96 is a member of the Raccoon River ValleyDistrict, Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 96 is located inUrbandale, IA and traditionally draws new scouts from Cub Scout Pack 96 andother packs in the Urbandale/Johnston area. Valerius and Karen Acres ElementarySchools are the typical feeder schools for Pack 96.

Baden-Powell was once quoted as saying, “The patrol system isnot one method in which Scouting for boys can be carried on. It is the onlymethod.” As patrols are formed, it is intended that their membership willremain together throughout their Scouting years. Beginning as a new Scoutpatrol, they become a tightly knit unit, which is dependent upon one anotherand yet finds strength and independence in their brotherhood. It is in thesafety and camaraderie of the patrol that lessons of leadership and cooperationare learned from each other. The patrol name and the emblem which reflects thatname are two of the ways that this group uniquely identifies itself.

Troop 96 is organized in standard BSA troop format. The troopconsists of a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster(s), Senior Patrol Leader(SPL), Patrol Leader(s) and 2-3 patrols of no more than 8 scouts per patrol.Additional positions of responsibility, i.e., Quartermaster, Den Chief, Scribe,Troop Guide, Historian, Librarian, Chaplain's Aid, Instructor andLNT etc., are selected by the SPL with Scoutmaster approval.

Troop 96 is a boy-led adult supervised troop under the guidanceand support of a Troop Committee. Parent involvement is highly encouraged andwelcomed!
