Troop 2 "The Deuce"

If you are a boy ages 11-18 and are looking for adventure, look no further than Troop 2 "The Deuce."  Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout Glenn Justis is looking for boys that want to learn leadership and have fun and adventure doing it.  Camping, hiking, high adventure, and basic Scouting skills are what is in store for you in this troop.  We believe if you build the program around the boys and around the activities the boys enjoy, the troop will thrive, and the boys will stay involved.  Give us a try and see why Troop 2, "The Deuce" is second to none!

Email or call Scoutmaster Glenn Justis for more info on meeting times.

Summerville Walk For Bladder Cancer 2014

Boy Scout Joe Justis is organizing a Walk For Bladder Cancer on May 3, 2014 as his Eagle Scout Project in an effort to bring awareness to the disease.  This walk is one of 60 walks that will be conducted across the United States on the same day.  The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (www.bcan.org) is sponsoring these walks to highlight the disease and to provide resources to those suffering from the disease.

We Walk:

Because more than 73,000 new cases of bladder cancer will be diagnosed this year. Because over 15,000 people will die this year in the US alone. Because 500,000 people are living with this life changing disease. That's 1 in 42 people!! Because even though it is the 6th most commonly diagnosed cancer there have been no new treatments developed in 25 years! – we need to change this! We walk on one day – bladder cancer is diagnosed every day. Don't delay! On line registration closes April 23rd and registration by mail must be sent by April 18th. There will be limited day of registration on site.

Please make sure to register using the code BSA2014! "Eagle Scout projects may not be fundraisers. The candidate may not stage an effort that primarily collects money, even if it is for a worthy charity". This is straight out of the Eagle Scout Project Workbook and BCAN wants to be very respectful of this. So BCAN has created a special discount code for those participating in this walk so as to bypass the registration fee. The primary focus of this effort is to raise awareness.

Troop 2 Completes 51.2 Miles for a Cure

The Deuce Tackles 50 Mile Hike and Bladder Cancer

The Deuce has committed 2013 to raising awareness and funds for bladder cancer.  In December, the Scouts will embark on a 50 mile hike to culminate a year of raising awareness and money to support bladder cancer research.  In cooperation with the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network(BCAN), the Scouts hope to raise $51,200.  On May 1st, a contingent of Scouts traveled to the Statehouse to accept a resolution they helped to get passed declaring May 2013 as Bladder Cancer Awareness Month throughout the State of South Carolina.  Read more about their efforts and the reasoning behind it here: http://www.journalscene.com/article/20130409/SJ01/130409700/1059/SJ01/scouts-to-tackle-bladder-cancer-and-50-mile-hike
